Marin Professional Firefighters Endorse Candidates and Issues: June 2012 Election

Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, conducts lengthy candidate interviews before issuing any endorsement under the direction of our Political Director and Political Action Committee.  We look for candidates that support worker's rights, public safety, believe in fair compensation, workplace safety, and show a broad understanding of the issues that effect firefighters, labor, and the fire service in general.  We base our endorsements on the endorsement policies of the IAFF and our Local 1775 bylaws and policies.

Marin Firefighters Raise $35,450 for MDA

Marin Professional Firefighters Raised $35,450 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through our 2012 Fill the Boot campaign! 

Thank you to all the Marin Firefighters who helped make this a record year! With your help we raised 10% more than 2011, and a record number of Firefighters participated.

Thank you to Bob Briare, President, Marin Professional Firefighters, Breanna Buchanan, MDA Coordinator, Chris, Dennis, Geoff, Jason, Jesse, Jonnie, Manny, Mark, Matt, Rick, and Sloane for coordinating Marin's most successful Fill the Boot! 

MDA and Local 1775 extend special thanks to: 
• Breanna Buchanan—Coordinating Marin's 4th Annual Fill the Boot campaign.
• Chris Mahoney—Leading the Hub intersection which raised over $10,000.
• Manny Medeiros—Leading the Mill Valley intersection which doubled the previous year's amount & won the support of the Mill Valley City Council.
• Jason Pace—Leading Novato's intersection which increased over $1,000 from last year .
• Matt Windrem—Leading San Rafael's intersection which increased over $1,000 from the previous year .
• Sloane Valentino—Leading Tiburon's intersection which had a record number of Firefighters participate.
• Jesse Rudnick—Recruiting a record number of Marin County Firefighters.
• Ross Valley Volunteer Firefighters & Chris Mahoney—Filling the Boot for an extra hour at the Hub! 
• Dennis Rutkowski—Attended both the San Rafael intersection & Tiburon Fill the Boot the following weekend & coordinated final counting area.
• Larkspur Firefighters & Mike—Grill Masters, thank you!

Marin Firefighters Endorse Candidates in Local Races

Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, proudly endorses the following candidates in the upcoming general election: 

  • Marin County Supervisor District 4: Steve Kinsey
  • Marin County Supervisor District 2: David Weinsoff
  • Marin Superior Court: James Chou

Endorsements are made only following exhaustive candidate interviews, and are based on a candidate's commitment and positions on local public safety and labor issues.

Marin Firefighters Endorse Jared Huffman for Congress

Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, representing the professional firefighters of Marin County, California, is proud to endorse Jared Huffman's candidacy for US Congress.  We believe that Jared Huffman is the best choice to represent the important and diverse communities of California's North Coast in the US House of Representatives.

Marin's firefighters have known Jared since he served as a local leader on the Board of Directors of the Marin Municipal Water District.  While serving the Marin community, Jared displayed leadership and an understanding of the complex public safety issues related to firefighting and emergency response, including issues such as the MMWD "Fire Flow" ugrades and emergency response and fire planning within the Water District's jurisdiction.
