San Jose to Citizens: Starve Public Safety, Feed Developers

On the heels of a round of layoffs that cost 49 firefighters their jobs, San Jose officials are vowing to slash nearly 1/4 of their fire and police services in the coming year's budget. But while threatening to decimate vital services, San Jose continues to siphon over $200 million in property-tax money to support developer subsidies through its redevelopment agency.
