Obituary: Former State Lawmaker Nell Soto, 82

Nell Soto, a former assemblywoman, state senator and trailblazer in Latino politics, died yesterday in Pomona. She was 82. In her 10 years with the state Legislature, Soto was a tried and true friend to public safety, passing legislation on disaster recovery, retirement security and firefighter funding. She was also a state partner on the Blue Ribbon Fire Commission.

CPF Backs Five of Six Propositions in May Special Election

This May 19th, California voters will be asked to decide on a number of propositions required to insure that the state doesn’t fall back into massive deficits. California Professional Firefighters is urging a YES vote on the core measures needed to protect our state’s fiscal health –Yes on Propositions 1A through 1E. “The proposals outlined in Props. 1A through 1E represent a step toward a more stable and predictable budget process and will keep our state from standing forever at the edge of the fiscal cliff,” said CPF President Lou Paulson.

Sacramento ROP Students Try Out CPAT

They climbed stairs, pulled ladders and dragged dummies. By Tuesday afternoon, seven Sacramento County ROP fire tech students had run through the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) at the Sacramento CPAT Testing Center, which is operated by the CPF co-sponsored CFFJAC. It was the first time that Sacramento ROP students had the opportunity to try the test, which has become the industry-standard physical ability testing system for firefighters.
