New State Budget Produces Mixed Bag for First Responders

For only the third time in a quarter century, California got an on-time budget this year. The $86 billion spending plan slashes deeply into every corner of state service, including public safety and public education, all part of bridging a budget gap pegged in January at more than $20 billion.

LA County Firefighters Join Rescue Efforts in New Zealand

Rescue teams from around the world have landed in New Zealand to help with rescue and relief efforts, including a team of Los Angeles County firefighters. Half the members of the U.S. rescue team are working in a high rise building in Christchurch, where most of the staircases collapsed after the quake.
