Corona FF Back on Lines After Open Heart Surgery

Corona Firefighters Local 3757 President Jim Steiner is back in the station, less than three months after open heart surgery. Steiner, a captain with Corona FD, had the surgery to repair a dime-sized hole in his heart. He came back only six weeks after his April 22nd surgery with the support of his brother and sister firefighters.

LODD: Berkeley Apparatus Operator Jay Walter


Berkeley Firefighters Local #1227 is saddened to announce the loss of one of their brother firefighters in the line of duty. Apparatus Operator Jay Randall Walter, 54, lost his battle with job-related cancer April 6th. Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11:00am at St. Joseph The Worker Church, 1640 Addison St., Berkeley. CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST.

Three FFs Injured in Explosive LA City Blaze

Three Los Angeles City firefighters suffered hand injuries early Wednesday during a massive two-hour firefight at a building complex. More than 220 firefighters and six task forces battled the pre-dawn blaze, which triggered a series of explosions and leveled a facility making titanium golf clubs.

Imperial Beach Hires First Woman Firefighter

The 10-person fire department in Imperial Beach, in San Diego County, now has its first woman firefighter. Tyra Moe turned down offers at two other departments to work in the small coastal community. The CPF co-sponsored Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service has been working to bring more qualified applicants to fire departments throughout the state.

Telegraph Fire Nears Full Containment

 Evacuation orders have been lifted and full containment is near for the 34,000-acre Telegraph Fire, which threatened Yosemite National Park. The blaze destroyed more than 100 structures, including 28 residences. Roughly three-dozen minor injuries were reported, but no deaths.
