With deepest regret and sorrow, Marin Professional Firefighters reports the passing of Edward Kelly, Local 1775 Treasurer, recently retired Ross Valley Fire Captain, Fairfax native, and loving grandfather and husband.

As one of the most generous and gregarious souls we have ever known, Ed blessed us all with his smile and companionship for nearly 40 years, through his service to Fairfax Fire Department, Ross Valley Fire Department, and Marin Professional Firefighters.

Together, We Defeated Proposition 32!

Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, thanks each Californian who voted to help defeat the Deceptive Proposition 32.  This ballot measure would have silenced the voices of union members, bringing down the standaards of pay and living for all working Californians by giving undue power to corporate special interests and billionaires.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING CALIFORNIA'S WORKING FAMILIES DEFEAT PROP 32!

From CPF:  California’s firefighters earned a hard-fought but historic win in last night’s elections. And you helped make it happen.

Governor Announces Historic Pension Rollbacks

Agreement with Legislature Imposes Lower Tier for New Hires, Pension Salary Cap, Phased-in Mandatory Cost Sharing

At a news conference in Los Angeles, Gov. Jerry Brown announced an agreement that will take public employee retirement security back to the Reagan years.

The plan – hashed out with legislative leaders behind closed doors – imposes a range of rollbacks, all without the benefit of collective bargaining.

  • New lower tier for almost all employees – local, state, teachers, the works. Public safety retirement would top out at 2.7% at 57;
  • A cap on pensionable income -- $110,000 for those who pay Social Security; $130,000 for those who don’t.
  • Mandatory cost sharing immediately, for all new employees, and by 2018, for current employees;
  • Three-year final compensation averaging;
  • Limits on pensionable compensation, airtime purchases, pension holidays and retroactivity.

You can read the governor’s media release HERE.

CPF President Lou Paulson had the following statement on the governor's announcement:
