Oct. 1 Proclaimed CA Firefighter Memorial Day

October 1, 2011 has been proclaimed California Firefighters Memorial Day, following the unanimous approval of CPF-sponsored SCR 56 (Yee), authored by Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco). The day memorializes the courage and commitment of firefighters across the state who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Two CA Firefighters Honored with Medal of Valor

Contra Costa Fire Engineer/Paramedic Dave Manzeck and Long Beach Firefighter Charles Hakopian, along with 11 law enforcement officers, today were awarded the Medal of Valor, the highest public safety award in the state.

SFFD Commemorates September 11

SFFD September 11 Ceremony, 2011 - San Francisco

On Saturday, September 10, 2011, San Francisco Firefighters Local 798 and the San Francisco Police Officers Association will be hosting an event commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. We expect to have a large crowd which will also include City officials and other Departments.

Formal ceremonies will begin promptly at 11:00 AM at Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall, concluding at approximately 12:15 pm. Class A uniforms are requested and we ask that all members attending appear at 10:00 AM if possible. Coffee and pastries will be served.

IAFF Raises $27.2 Million for MDA in 2011

The 46th Annual MDA Labor Day Telethon raised $61.4 million to help fight neuromuscular diseases, $27.2 million of which was raised by Fire Fighters from IAFF affiliates like the $32,000 raised by Local 1775, Marin Professional Firefighters for MDA in 2011, in Fill-the-Boot campaigns and other fundraisers in their communities.

The IAFF, now in its 57th year of supporting MDA, continues to be the top fundraiser for the charity which helps support direct needs and research to assist children and adults affected by the range of neuromuscular discorders known as Muscular Dystrophy..
