Rescue Boat Accident

Assistant Fire Chief Samuel J. Blumenberg of Fairfax and a base engineer took a rescue boat for a shakedown run on San Pablo Bay after overhauling the engine on Feb. 14, 1970. That was the last they were seen alive.  The boat was found empty and adrift near the Sisters Island. Blumenberg's body was found two weeks later near Angel Island.
